VSSA Outdoor Rink fundraising Project
The Why
The VSSA Hockey community is in the process of trying to fundraise to get out own outdoor rink at school! This project is deeper than just for our athletes at VSSA, it also supports the community at large to have another ice sheet that can be utilized throughout the winter to enjoy the game we love. This rink gives out players the opportunity to add additional ice time throughout the week in addition to our training at Dobson. Furthermore, this space will give our athletes a spot to call “home” on campus to dill any downtime between the end of our training sessions before school begins.
The Rink
The proposed rink would go over an existing 50x100’ asphalt basketball court of the northwest corner of the VSSA school building with easy access to the school. We would install 48" boards and 10’ of full netting for a real training rink experience. We have decided to purchase the rink from EZ Rinks because we will not have to lay any additional concrete and the insulation is very straight forward! EZ ICE Rink boards are engineered from the same high density, durable, plastic as NHL boards so this system should last us about 10 years.
The Goal
Based on estimates, a rink to meet our current and future needs will cost approximately $20,000. This includes site preparation, ice, and boards with netting, snowblower, shovels, simple Zamboni and a storage shed. VSSA Hockey will provide two additional hours of weekly instruction, nets, pucks, benches, rink upkeep. We would possibly hire laborers to assist with a quick, one-time initial install. Any money raised over $20,000 will be used to replace the liner and purchase other future add-ons.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE RAISED?
A donor family has kick-started the capital campaign with a $5,000 donation. We believe that strong community support from VSSA hockey families other possible sponsors will help us raise the remaining investment.
